| Living with HIV / AIDS... ...is NOT easy. In some cases, medications may stop the disease's progress. However, doing so may require taking 30 - 40 pills per day. Some of those pills may need to be taken in the morning, others at midday, others later. Some pills must be taken on an empty stomach, while others require food. Some may need to be taken every four hours, others every six- or the frequency may vary. As you can see, just managing medications becomes a full-time job when one is living with HIV / AIDS. One of the tasks of a Christian caregiver may be to simply encourage someone to continue in diligently taking their medications! Or the care may be as simple as transporting someone to a doctor's appointment on time! What might be a 15 minute trip by automobile for most of us can become a two-hour nightmare when trying to make connections using public transportation. Moreover, doing so exacts a physical and emotional toll- the victim may be only marginally capable of making such an extended trip, and if they do they often face looks of disapproval and a feeling of alienation from bus co-riders. Discrimination exists even when calling a cab- drivers often avoid HIV / AIDS sufferers and their vouchers in favor of full fares elsewhere. | |||||||
| What would Jesus do? | Unfortunately, those who live with HIV / AIDS today may feel somewhat like those who lived with leprosy during Jesus' time- like society's outcasts. |
| It is interesting that Jesus Christ devoted his ministries to the least, the last, and the lost! Jesus didn't come to preach to the 'well'- Jesus came to serve and to comfort and to heal all in need. Jesus did not turn away from those living as society's 'outcasts' then- nor does He turn away from those living with HIV / AIDS today. Christ's grace and compassion can serve as an example for us today -- for how we may be of service to others. For how we may be caregivers. And for how we should love one another! | |
| What can We do? | RAIN COLORADO needs non-judgmental, loving, and compassionate Christian caregivers to help those who live with HIV / AIDS. Volunteers are always needed for this important ministry! |
