Phil Romig III

This month, we recognize Phil Romig III (Chip), a longtime member of Golden FUMC. Chip grew up in the church, and was a member of Boy Scout Troop 130. Chip has the honor of being an Eagle Scout with Troop 130. Chip received his Bachelor’s degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Religion and his Doctorate from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Computer Science. After finishing college and university, he returned to his hometown, Golden, and is employed at the Colorado School of Mines. At CSM, he is their Chief Information Security Officer, an important role that protects CSM’s data and its networks from hackers and other threats.

Nowadays, he attends our church along with his wife, Deb, and his teenaged sons, Ben and Sam. Chip is the chairperson of the SPRC (Staff Parish Relations Committee), and he has recently (in the last six months) guided the committee while it conducted two “new hires” for our paid staff. Choosing new staff members is a time-consuming process, and we appreciate the time Chip has invested in making great choices for us!

Chip leads the Adult Intergenerational Sunday School class, which is an ongoing commitment. He has led the group in many interesting adult-level study sessions. Chip also regularly serves as a Sunday
liturgist, and is a regular participant when the church has work projects and cleanup days. As for hobbies, Chip enjoys hiking, camping, fishing, and of course cycling—he just finished riding the 2016 Ride the Rockies bike tour. We thank Chip for all he has done for Golden FUMC!”
