Early Years...

Franklin Ceylon Millington was born in New York on March 18, 1841.1

Golden Ministries

Rev. Franklin C. (F.C.) Millington had the distinction of riding, with his family, on the first passenger train that arrived in Denver, Colorado in 1870. Millington's first appointment was to the Methodist-Episcopal Church in Golden.2

The Minutes of the Denver District Conference for the appointment year of 1870-1871 show that
"A parsonage addition to the chapel was completed and paid for by The Reverend Millington." 3
This consisted of Millington adding two brick rooms onto the brick study that had been built in 1869-1870. Before this addition the parsonage had consisted of a single room! The improvement was estimated to be worth $800 -- a considerable sum in that time!3

Church records for the appointment year showed that the congregation collected $100 for missions and paid $32 into Church Extension. $400 in funding was received as support from the Missionary Board and the church collected $900 -- which made the pastor's salary $1300.3

Unfortunately, no precise membership list was made during Rev. Millington's year of service in Golden. However, church records do state that
"During the year, C. Williams and wife among others, united with the church, and Mrs. C. A. Clark withdrew." 3

Other Ministries...

Following Golden, Rev. Millington pastored three churches - Longmont, Colorado Springs, and Denver - between the years of 1871 and 1881.2

It is known that from 1881-1883 Millington served as a Presiding Elder, the equivalent of what is now a District Superintendent within the United Methodist Church.2

F. C. was closely associated with the beginnings of the University of Denver in 1880, and later he worked for D.U. as a financial agent.2

Rev. Franklin C. (F.C.) Millington died in Colorado on December 27, 1887.1
